“Scales of Cycle”
This piece is an exploration of the relationships within a cycle. When a user introduces an amount of sand to act against a counterweight the cycle is started. The distances of the pulleys from the axis as well as the size of the pulleys are all a relationship. You can think of it as a mathematical equation, there are variables and constants. When things are changed the system acts differently and outputs a different reaction based upon the fixed equation and user determined variables. In this case the variables are the amount of sand that is held in the counterweight and the amount and rate at which the user pours sand into the perforated scale.
